Fellowship is an honor that is bestowed on the best of our profession once per year at the GSA Spring Council meeting. GSA members are elected to Fellowship in recognition of distinguished contributions to the geosciences.

GSA is actively soliciting Fellow nominations through its Divisions and Sections. This effort is supported by the Committee on Membership and GSA Council.

We would be derelict in our duty to not honor whenever possible the teachers of geology. The GSA fellows who are members of the GED division should never forget their right to sponsor the admirable among our ranks for fellowship. Let us not forget that many a teacher often by nature is not limelight seeking. We must seek out and honor those who are praiseworthy.

The nature of the contributions to the science made by the Fellowship candidate may take many forms, For example:

Training of geologists. Teaching of geology students in either graduate or undergraduate formal education programs constitutes an important contribution to the science. Furthermore, participation in presentation of specialized training in applied programs, short courses, etc., may also be recognized. Preparation of educational materials (textbooks, laboratory manuals, short-course guides, field guides, etc.) may also constitute a contribution.

Review the list of GSA GED Members who are Fellows [See below].  Our goal is to identify GSA GED Members who have not been nominated in the past and are deserving of Fellowship.

Note:  Fellowship nominations may only be made by a Fellow of the Society.
